The Friends for Life foundation campaign is taking place for the sixth time this year. In previous years, 17,500 men have come to see a doctor as part of it. The organizers want every man to visit the family doctor at least once a year to be mindful of their health and value it.
The medical partners of Friends for Life foundation campaign are SYNLAB, Meliva, Confido and Medicum. Throughout the country, men (up to age 35 and 35+) can get a blood test in November at a special price. This blood test provides information on about ten health indicators. (You don’t need to fast before the test.)

All Estonian men are invited to take part in the ‘Friends For Life Day’. Regular health checks give an overview of your health and contribute to making necessary lifestyle changes. That way, you will live much longer, being healthier and stronger and spending more time with your friends and loved ones.
The leading causes of death among Estonian men are heart and circulatory related diseases and cancers of the lung and prostrate. Regular health checks can help to diagnose illnesses at the earliest stage possible and preventative changes to healthier lifestyle choices can reduce serious health risk factors, such as smoking, unhealthy diets, high alcohol consumption, lack of exercise or insufficient rest and stress.
Heart and circulatory diseases make up 35% of all health issues experienced in men, with 19% being related to cancer and 11% attributed to injuries and poisoning.
Currently life expectancy for Estonian men at 73.9 years is 8,5 years less than that for Estonian women which is 82.4 years.
Serious and chronic health conditions in Estonian men are often diagnosed too late as men aged below 50 have a much lower tendency to visit their doctor for regular check-ups when compared to women of the same age group.
‘Friends for Life Day’ invites men to spend a day together with their friends, in celebration of their friendship, of good health and, whilst undergoing a health check, pursuing together the common goal of extending the quality and the number of healthy years ahead. This day will be organised in cooperation with leading health professionals (General Practitioners, men’s doctors, etc.) One of the goals is to map out the most important health indicators for men in that age group. This will give a good reference point against which participants can compare their data. ‘Friends For Life Day’ is therefore a great opportunity to collect that data. And, for men, this information will present a possibility to consider altering their life-style choices in good time, based on the comparison of easy-to-understand statistics.
2019 - participation by 10,000 men in the Friends for Life Day campaign
2020 - participation by 25,000 men in the Friends for Life Day campaign
2023 - 20% improvement in health indicators of Estonian men
We need determined leaders – real friends, who would organise a ‘Friends For Life Day’ event for their friends, family or colleagues. We urge employers to take care of their employees, to encourage them to take regular health checks and give them a day off work, without loss of salary, in order to arrange their ‘Friends For Life Day’. If you wish to make a contribution towards a long and healthy life for yourself and your friends, register and take action now. Instructions for how to participate can be found on our website.
